Friendly Folk Records anticipated release of “Sahm Covers Sahm” a tribute album by Shandon Sahm has received a warm welcome from Sahm fans worldwide. With a retro vibe, the album pays homage to the artist’s infamous father, Doug Sahm. The album features a selection of Doug’s greatest hits from the 60’s – 90’s delivered with a modern day twist by his son, Shandon, who is accompanied by stellar line-up of musicians. Shandon Sahm embarked on his new solo career of singer-songwriter with his own style of contemporary alt-country and glam folk rock, and in 2018, Shandon packed up his guitar, cat, and belongings and left his home in Austin, Texas (USA) and moved to Amsterdam (Netherlands). After a successful run as drummer for the American rock band, Meat Puppets, Shandon felt it was time to return to his alternative country roots and release a tribute album to his late father, Doug Sahm. During an interview Shandon once said, “I want to turn people on to Dad’s music, but I don’t feel I’m in his shadow.” This sentiment reflects the spirit behind ‘Sahm Covers Sahm’ which features Doug Sahm hits: ‘Groover’s Paradise’, ‘Goodbye San Francisco-Hello Amsterdam’, ‘Monterey Sun’, ‘Meet Me In Stockholm’ and ‘Give Back The Key To My Heart’.
Texas writer Heather Bishop is a vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Her current work is best described as roots music, with songs that linger in the crossroad of soul, folk, rock and country. As a guest artist, she has contributed vocals, strings, and percussion in genres ranging from rock to reggae, bluegrass to metal, folk, americana, and everything in between. At times in her career, the notoriously performance-shy Heather Bishop has been compared to Ani DiFranco, Tina Turner, and even Richie Havens. This comes as no surprise to close friends and fans. Her songwriting and performances are at once bold yet subtle, cool yet impassioned.
