Every year for my birthday I try to spotlight at least 2 bands that I think are the cat’s pajamas. This year there were too many to choose from, but I finally settled on a soul/r&b/doo wop throw-down with Soulman Sam & LaTasha Lee. Please join us! ~Dianne
LaTasha Lee is a singer-songwriter from Corpus Christi, Texas with a gritty, soulful, classic sound, that transports you back to the days when many of your favorite artists thrived. Incorporating her influences of the past, such as Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Etta James and more, Latasha looks to stay true to the sound she loves.
Soulman Sam began his singing career in Memphis, competing in competitions and singing in the church choir. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Otis Redding, Issac Hayes, B.B. King, Albert King and Al Green. He eventually landed a job singing with the Bar-Kays. Sam was offered a recording contract with Memphis’ famed Stax Records, a deal which fell through when Sam moved to Alaska to help his brother, whose wife suffered serious health problems. He started singing Rhythm & Blues again in 1999, formed a band, and began opening for the likes of James Brown, Buckwheat Zydeco, and Gladys Knight.
